Zebulon — The Carolina Mudcats and the Frederick E. Turnage Chapter of the American Red Cross are partnering up for Rocky Mount/Nash County Community Night to be held June 9 at Five County Stadium.
The event will be sponsored by Bobby Murray Toyota.Community night will focus on the storied history of the Rocky Mount Leafs, which existed from 1941 through 1975. The Mudcats will be wearing Leafs jerseys during the game, similar to the ones worn in the middle of the 20th century. Ticket sales will serve as a fundraiser for the Turnage Chapter of the Red Cross. In the weeks leading up to the game, Turnage Chapter representatives, along with the Nash County emergency services, will sell $5 general admission tickets to the Mudcats’ game against the Jacksonville Suns. The chapter will keep half of the proceeds from those ticket sales to apply to disaster relief funds. Tickets will be available beginning April 1 from any Red Cross, Nash County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Mount Police, Rocky Mount Fire or Nash County Fire member.In this inaugural fund-raising event in conjunction with the Mudcats, a silent auction will be conducted for the team-worn throwback jerseys. All proceeds will benefit the Twin Rivers Chapter of the American Red Cross. Additionally, a business expo will be held on the concourse, giving local businesses an opportunity to display information as another vehicle to support the Turnage Red Cross.The night will commence with a pair of ceremonial first pitches. Tim Martin, President of Bobby Murray Toyota, in Rocky Mount, and Danny Talbott, one of Rocky Mount’s most distinguished athletes and a member of the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, will each enjoy the privilege.Talbott, was a tri-sport star in football, basketball and baseball at Rocky Mount High School, who went on to dominate the football and baseball scene at the University of North Carolina.
