Wendell — This weekend the East Wake Warrior wrestling team had its end of the season banquet.

"I would like to thank all the East Wake High School staff for their support throughout the season and to our wrestling parents for their support,” coach Mike Kendall said.

At the end of the season, East Wake had 29 wrestlers on the roster.

Twelve wrestlers made the Principal's List, including Joey Barron, Richard Gillespie, Greg Martin, Jordan Miller, Jake Sullivan, Calvin Preston, Brandon Beck, Kerry Sarna, Scott Staples, Austin Marx, Do Bui and Chris Rock.

Eleven others made Honor Roll including Justin Barnett, Zack Burke, Travis Casper, Graham Lindley, Elijah Robertson, J.J. Rodriguez, Jennings Stout, Matt Tucker, Bobby Chavis and Mitchell Morgan.

Miller, Barron and Horton were honored as All-Conference wrestlers.

All-State notables were Miller, Martin and Horton.

Austin Ferrell was dubbed junior varsity wrestler of the year.

Miller was presented the sportsmanship award, Martin was named most improved, and Rodriguez was given the coach’s award.

The Charles Paul Award for most outstanding wrestler was presented to Horton for his accomplishments in the ’07-’08 season.

Kendall said his seniors showed great leadership both on and off the mat.

“We wish you all the best of luck as you end one chapter of your life and begin a new one,” Kendall said.
