Planter's Walk

The No. 20-seed Planter’s Walk Piranhas dropped their first meet of the season to the No. 13-seed Coachman’s Trail Sharks on June 30 in a 205-309 final.

The loss may have been tough to stomach as it was the Piranhas’ home opener, but in the July 7 meet the team (2-1) might have found home-water redemption in facing Manchester, an 0-3 team. Results from the meet were not available at press time.

Planter’s Walk travels to Durant Trails for the July 14 meet — the team’s next-to-last of the summer.

Despite the loss, solid effort in the meet against Coachman’s Trail was seen from all swimmers, and triple winners included Anna Luckenbach for the 9-10 girls and Kelsey Moore for the 13-14 girls, and Dax Hardy pulled the double win for the 6U boys.

Stopwatch winners for the week — the kids who dropped the most time — were Caleb Darlington (8.99 seconds in the 6U breaststroke), Michael Palko (31.43 seconds in the 7-8 breaststroke), Evan Peters (8.66 seconds in 7-8 the backstroke), Natalie Van Dyke (9.85 seconds in the 7-8 freestyle), Eric Godette (34.54 seconds in the 11-12 breaststroke), Scottie Kent (8.38 seconds in the 13-14 backstroke), and Ryan Alandt (8.31 seconds in the freestyle).

Wendell

The Waves dropped their third meet in as many tries in last Tuesday’s 315-199 final at Heddingham.

The loss in foreign waters may have been a big pill to swallow after Wendell fell short in its first two matches of the swimming season, both of which were at home.

Fans witnessed several individual victories from the Waves, and improved times and stroke techniques across the board, but the Sharks, who are averaging 321 points per meet, bit hard and never let go, despite several valiant attempts from Wendell at evening things in the relay races.

A highlight for the Waves was the crushing first-second-third win swam by Calvin Hawke, Mitch Wells and Tyler Tripp, respectively. Daniel Duttman also proved valuable as the Waves’ only triple winner, taking first in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly.

Others with outstanding performances included Justin Strickland, Staci Hunter, Keslee Snuggs, Lizzie Drake, and Chip Raynor.

Wendell hits the road for a second consecutive week for next Tuesday’s (July 14) meet against Hawthorne at 7 p.m.

Zebulon

The Dolphins came back twice last Tuesday to pull a 232-222 win over Meredith Townes and boost themselves to 2-1 on the season.

Through the Medley Relay, Zebulon trailed 15-25, but took back over by one point after the Freestyle heats, 73-72. Backstroke proved not to be a problem for the home team as it stretched its lead to 129-113, but Breaststroke wasn’t as generous to the Dolphins.

Meredith Towns (1-2 as of the loss) outscored Zebulon 54-36 to take the 165-167 lead.

But Butterfly, a stroke that mirrors that of an actual dolphin, was no problem for the Dolphins. Zebulon went up 217-197 through the final individual heats and preserved the win through the Freestyle Relay.

Triple winners for Zebulon were Ryan Worley, Rachel Crowder, Hamilton Brantley, Mackenzie Wehunt, Macon Crowder and Elizabeth Oliver, and the sole double winner was Harrison Huets.
