ELM CITY — Locals and those in the surrounding areas fared well in the past two week’s races at County Line Raceway.

In the Saturday, June 13 race, Jeremy Benson, of Middlesex, finished second in the Cadet class. Wendell resident Carlton Toney placed sixth in the Pure Stock Four Cylinder division, and Chris Ray and Victory May, both of Zebulon, finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the Thunder and Lightening division.

In the June 6 races, Bill Winstead, of Bailey, captured his second victory of the Super Stock Four Cylinder division, and David Beaman of Bailey claimed his first Pure Stock V-8 win this season.

Cody Keith of Franklinton captured his third win in the Cadet division and Skeeter Liles of Bailey captured his fourth in the Thunder & Lightning division.

The Cadet division saw Hunter Bailey, of Sims, lead from lap one until cars were coming out of turn four on the final lap. Bailey lost control and hit the tire at the entrance to pit road. Keith was then able to take the checkered flag. Benson managed a second-place finish.

Thirteen cars lined up for the 25-lap Thunder & Lightning feature race. Louisburg’s Luke Owens jumped to the lead at the wave of the green flag. Owens led the first 16 laps before developing transmission problems.

Liles took the opportunity and never looked back, steering his Camaro to the line for win number four. Ray worked his way from a sixth-place start to claim the No. 2 spot at the finish line.

Austin Holcombe, of Elm City, led the first six laps of the Pure Stock Four Cylinder feature before Wilson’s James Manning took the lead and the checkered flag. But second-place finisher Gary Whitley of Stantonsburg filed a protest against Manning. Manning refused the protest and was disqualified. Whitley was then declared the winner, driving his Mustang to victory lane. Wendell’s Toney finished in fourth place.
