ZEBULON — A pair of Mudcats topped Southern League charts and earned pitcher and hitter of the week for the week of June 1-7. Shortstop Zack Cozart smashed four solo homers over the course of the week, three of which turned out to be game-winners for the ’Cats, who had at the time won 19 of their last 23 games. Cozart recorded a hit in all seven of the team’s games that week, three of which he had multi-hit games. He also smacked three doubles and lead the league with extra-base hits while carrying a .828 slugging percentage. He scored seven times, boosting his season figure to 38, the fifth highest in the Southern League.Left-handed pitcher Travis Wood did work of his own from the mound.Wood slung for 15 hitless innings over the course of two games. On June 7, he posted his first career full-game shutout against Jacksonville, his fifth straight win in a row, giving up three hits and benching 17 hitters.Over the week, Wood dropped his league-best ERA from 1.38 to 1.22. He leads the Southern League in innings pitched at 74 and is second in kills at 60.
