Zebulon — Six Carolina Mudcats are on the Northern Division All-Star team roster for the 2008 Southern League All-Star Game to be held at Five County Stadium on Monday, July 14th.

Infielders Gaby Sanchez and Chris Coghlan, along with outfielders Cameron Maybin and John Raynor, will stand as position players, while right-handed pitchers Chris Volstad and Chris Mobley will serve as the Mudcats' two pitchers represented on the 23-player roster released by the Southern League Monday.

Ranked seventh in the league entering Monday's game, Sanchez leads the Mudcats with a .314 batting average. Sanchez is fifth in hits, with 88, and tied for second in doubles at 26.

Coghlan is second in Carolina hitting with a .302 average, while he sits fourth in the league with 92 hits. Coghlan also leads the club with 45 RBIs.

Maybin, a two-time Futures Game star who has been widely regarded as one of the premiere minor league players in the game, leads Carolina with six triples and 12 homers with an average of .266.

Raynor, the South Atlantic League MVP last season, leads a Mudcats running attack, and is on-pace to rewrite team records. Raynor holds 29 stolen bases and is third in the league with 60 runs scored. As of Monday, June 30, Raynor is 19 steals away from matching Elvis Pena's club record of 48, set in 2000.

Volstad, who was closely eyed for the Florida pitching staff out of spring training, is 4-3 and has been in the league's top-10 in ERA for practically the entire first half. Volstad has an ERA of 3.28 over 85 innings, and has not permitted a home run since last August in Montgomery, spanning nearly 95 frames.

Mobley overtook the closer's role for the Mudcats when an injury opened up the position. Mobley, currently third in the league in saves, has held his own, converting 13 of 17 saves for the Mudcats, while his ERA stands at 2.88.

The Huntsville Stars led the five-team division by landing eight members, with West Tenn (4), Chattanooga (4), and Tennessee (1) rounding out the roster.
