ZEBULON — Knightdale ousted East Wake, but not the entire field in the Greater Neuse River Conference match, hosted by the Knights at Wil-Mar Golf Club Thursday.
Holly Springs rang in the low team score at 300, followed by Clayton at 307, Knightdale at 313, Smithfield-Selma at 316, East Wake at 322, Garner at 343 and West Johnston at 353. Knightdale’s Brian Denton led the team posting a one-over-par 72. Denton was followed by Lou Muccio and Jung Yoon, who fired a pair of 77s, and sophomore Matt Pridgen, shooting 87. East Wake’s Aaron Little matched Denton’s play, also shooting 72. Little was followed by Rondo Brannan, shooting 79, Quentin Hinnant, shooting 84 and Brian Strickland, who shot 87. These scores represent the top four scores from the six players representing each school in the event. East Wake coach Darrin Stinson said he thought Brannon played exceptionally well in the event at a score of 79, noting he was coming off a 93 shot Tuesday that same week. Coaches said the course was playing a bit long due to the wetness recent rains have produced — a possible explanation for the lack of extraordinary play. Both East Wake and Knightdale travelled to Smithfield-Selma Monday to compete in another conference match. Results were not available at press time.
