EW pulls off victory

Knightdale's Greg Jackson slides into second base a little too late. East Wake's Garrett Johnson has already covered second and is slinging a hopeful double play to first baseman Nate Lusk.

Zebulon — Knightdale needed a win in Wednesday night’s game against East Wake at Five County Stadium.

But East Wake managed to pull off a seventh inning 3-2 victory and its first win of the season.

Coming off a 6-2 loss to Garner that sent the team to 1-8 on the season, the Knights were in a similar situation as the East Wake Warriors, who were 0-7 coming into the night.

Knightdale took an early lead in the low scoring game, but the Warriors were able to inch back in and hold off through the end.

The game was won on Nathan Lusk's game tying — and game winning — RBIs that came with his seventh inning double. Justin O'Brien was the winning pitcher for the Warriors.

Knightdale’s pitcher, Cameron Richards, lost the game on the mound, but managed an RBI from the plate.

Knightdale Catcher Tyler Frizzelle also recorded a double, and outfielder Aaron Stangland continued his consistent batting habits, but it simply wasn’t enough to match the late effort of the East Wake team.

Next up for Knightdale is the Knights Round Table Tournament sponsored by Leith Auto Park East, hosted at the school this Saturday-Tuesday.

East Wake takes on Leesville Thursday night at 7 in Wendell.
