Zebulon GT Magnet Middle School held a career exploration day for students last semester. More than 60 outstanding business professionals, civic leaders and town officials attended.Guests shared information about actual work activities, education requirements and future job outlook. Presenters also emphasized how basic skills developed in school (reading, writing, speaking, math and team work) relate to the real world of work.Many speakers were lined up for the event through the East Wake Business Alliance, and alliance member Bernie Brown of Wake Stone Corp. served as chairperson for the ZMS function.Presenters included Deputy Lyn Buck and K-9 officer Albany (a children ambassador dog), chiropractors, nurses, ministers, Zebulon Town Manager Rick Hardin, a geologist, accountants, office managers, firefighters, police officers, authors, a psychologist, physicians, town clerks, and employees from Wake Stone, Nomaco and Blount Inc., to name a few.Also present were David Rockefeller, Wake County Career & Technical Education director; Lori Millberg, Wake school board member, and Rep. Linda Coleman.
"Students, as well as faculty, expressed positive feedback about the experience," said ZMS Career Development Coordinator Kathy Norman. "Zebulon GT Magnet Middle would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to all of the volunteers who participated. Exposure to many career choices will help students prepare for the future."
