Here is a quote from the Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 Eastern Wake News on the Mingo Creek Park: "But neighbor Richard Fischer would rather leave things as they are. 'I don't think it should become a park,' he said. 'You want your kids playing on top of a landfill?'"

Residents need to do some research on Parks and Recreation across the United States. They would find that many parks are made from landfills. There is Mount Trashmore Park at Virginia Beach, Va. The park was make from layers of solid waste and clean soil. It has national honors recognition as well.

Staten Island's former landfill became Freshkills Park. If residents would become involved in their community and attend town council meetings and share their ideas or concerns, that lot could have been made into a useable park many years ago. Leave the park as it is? How many residents have actually gone into the park to walk around? Change is the only way to grow and move forward. Status quo is no longer the way for a growing town. For Mr.Fischer's one 'leave it alone' comment, I have a least a dozen residents who want change and the park updated and maintained by the town. Get out, get up, get involved in your community.
