The naïveté you exposed in your opinion article of Aug. 26 is the same argument we have all heard since school integration was made law of the land. The old adage, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink," is reinforced. Diversity displays the positive and the negative of all cultures. We can learn from this, but when political correctness cancels any criticism, no one learns. What life is about is choices. If a mother and father in Cary have made good choices and have worked hard to achieve positive goals in life for their children and themselves, why should they have to expose their children to any negative influences? In this politically correct format we all bear the burden of irresponsible behavior and we keep our children from their maximum potential while the system tries to deal with the illegal and apathetic groups that have entered our schools. All one has to do is walk around certain schools to see the sad waste of youth. Increased diversity only divides those who will not learn from associations. A chain is as strong as its weakest link. When any minority is integrated into any system for decades and doesn't improve itself it is lost. Minorities today in this PC atmosphere demand rewards or a place at the table just for showing up. Forced diversity that you seem to advocate will just lower the goals and expectations of any school system into perpetuity.
