The son of the late Helon and William Edgar Harris, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Earl Williams Harris.

He was a career law enforcement officer, working with the Raleigh Police Department and the Wake County Sheriff’s Office before retiring from the security office at the Raleigh Civic Center.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy A. Harris; two sons, Ronny Harris and wife Kim and David Harris and wife Marie all of Zebulon; two daughters, Karen Carroll and partner Keith of Spring Hope and Judy Edwards and husband Connie of Wendell; four step children; one sister, Ona Lee Walker of Greensboro; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
