CARY – Leslie Ethler “Bug” Flowers, Jr., 82, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at Rex Healthcare after many months of declining health.

A native of Knightdale, he was the son of the late Leslie Ethler Flowers, Sr. and Frances Marian Ferrell Flowers. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and N.C. State University and worked for many years in the commercial construction business.

Funeral services were held Monday at Piney Plains United Church of Christ in Cary with the Rev. Johnny Richards officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his significant other Barbara V. Hayes; two daughters, Teresa F. Giles of Virginia Beach, Va. and Denise F. Harr and husband John of Raleigh; one sister, Marian F. Wilkerson and husband Herman of Creedmoor; and three grandchildren.

L. Harold Poole Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
