A native of Tampa, Fla., he was the son of Joseph Mattress and Stephanie Saunders Fischer. He was a a senior at Knightdale High School and worked for his uncle at Atlantic Tire and Service.

Survivors include his father, Joseph Mattress and friend Susan A. Latta of Knightdale; his mother, Susan Saunders Fischer and her husband David; one brother, Brandon V. Holmes of Holly Springs; paternal grandparents, Albert Mattress of Wendell and Roswitha K. Clark of Clarksville, Va.; maternal grandparents, Richard and Sharon Fischer of Knightdale.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Faith Baptist Church in Knightdale with the Rev. Stan Edwards officiating.

L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
