A native of Alexandria, Egypt, he was the son of Baria Sarakby and the late Mohamed Sarakby. He came to the U.S. in 1967 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Frances Rowland Sarakby; one step-son Larry Lewis and his wife Jacqui; one step-daughter, Andria Chiaramonte and her husband Robert; two brothers, Sherif Sarakby and Adib Sarakby; two sisters, Shehnaz Sarakby and Leyla El Diwany; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Raleigh Memorial Park.

The family has requested that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to Duke Homecare and Hospice, 4321 Medical
