A native of Wilson County, he lived in Raleigh for 45 years before moving to Louisburg. He was the son of the late William Jesse Taylor and Dorothy Pillars Taylor.

He was an Eagle Scout and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-45. He later founded Taylor’s Nursery and was active in the company until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Taylor; one son, Richard B. Taylor Jr. and his wife Marian; three daughters, Ann Gonski and her husband Rod, Frances Moore and her husband David and Lyn Gregory and her husband Mike; one sister, Dorothy T. Cutler; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 27 at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. The family will visit in the Baucom Parlor following the service.

The family has requested that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to Meals on Wheels of Wake County, Inc., PO Box 37369 Raleigh NC 27627 or to the J.C. Raulston Arboretum, Campus Box 7522, Raleigh NC 27695-7522.
