WENDELL – Marion Lewis “M.L.” Smith, 81, of 110 Stratford Drive, died July 18, 2009 at WakeMed. A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late William Otho Smith and Annie Pearl Bishop Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired Postal Clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. As long as his health permitted, he was an active member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters, Brenda S. Piatt of Pilot and Vicki Perry of Huston Texas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Aldean Sledge Smith and a daughter, Linda Sue S. Vaughan.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the L. Harold Poole Funeral Service chapel with the Rev. Ed Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh with military honors.
