ZEBULON — Christine Duke Hopkins, 92, died March 24 at Coventry House. Funeral was March 26 at Zebulon Baptist Church. Burial was at Zebulon Cemetery.She was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Wake County. A longtime resident of Zebulon, she devoted her life to helping others as she cared for family members and friends. Called "Mama Teen," she was the oldest child of Annie Horton and Irvin Duke who preceded her in death along with her husband, Willie B. Hopkins; and siblings, Earl, Harold, Haywood and Maxine King. In her younger years, she was active in the community as a deacon in Zebulon Baptist Church, worthy matron in Order of the Eastern Star No. 87, chairwoman for the Democratic Party, and member of the Shrinettes Club, Historical Association and Woman’s Club, and loved taking trips. In recent years, she enjoyed growing flowers, shopping, watching birds and visiting friends.Surviving: daughter, Anne Fishel of Chapel Hill; brother, Mitchell Duke of Wendell; grandchildren, Joy Fishel (Matt Shugert) of Silver Spring, Md., Justin Fishel (Bich Tuyen Nguyen) of Raleigh; numerous nieces and nephews.Contributions may be sent to Zebulon Baptist Church, P.O.
