WENDELL — William Sherrill Griffin Jr. died March 13 at Guardian Care in Zebulon with his family at his side. Funeral was March 16 at Massey Funeral Home, Zebulon. Burial was private.

He was born April 18, 1925. He was an aviator and flight instructor for the N.C. National Guard. His 30-year military career began with service in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He advanced to command level at the rank of lieutenant colonel with the National Guard until his military retirement in 1972. He worked another 10 years for the state of North Carolina as a safety inspector.

Surviving: wife, Audrey Amos Griffin; sons, Dennis and wife Tommi, Brad and wife Linda; grandchildren, Jeff, Whitney, Alex, Kelli, Jaimie; sisters, Shirley Hicks and husband Don, Winnie Ciavarella and husband Angelo, Sylvia Campbell and husband Lawrence.
