Zebulon What was originally thought to be an armed robbery at the Murphy USA is now suspected to be larceny by one of its employees. According to a police report, Linda Graham, of Wilson, an employee at Murphy USA, phoned in an armed robbery on Dec. 23, 2008.Graham told police she was working when three individuals entered the store and robbed her at gunpoint. She was then brought back to the police department for further questioning. During the interview, officers said Graham repeatedly changed her story and was inconsistent in her answers. Based on her story, officers decided it was Graham and her boyfriend who had pulled the fast one on the convenience store.Graham was arrested and charged with a felony larceny by an employee for stealing an undisclosed amount of money from the store.Graham was taken into custody under a $50,000 secured bond. Officers are still investigating the boyfriend, who was unidentified, and what involvement he might have had in the crime. Police wont say how much money was stolen.
FOOD STOLEN AT FOOD LIONOn Dec. 23, 2008, officers responded to a call in the Triangle East shopping center involving a larceny at Food Lion.According to police reports, Gary Harris, 38, of 2700 Debnam Road, was caught walking out of the grocery store with six steaks tucked under his coat in a plastic bag.The steaks were valued at $81.92.Upon arresting Harris, officers also found a crack pipe.Harris was charged with two misdemeanors.
GET-TOGETHER GOES WRONGOfficers received a Christmas Day assault call involving two men and a woman. According to police reports, Clarence Keith, 51, of 118 E. McIver St., found himself in a dispute over a radio with his girlfriend Shareline Holder, 26, and his friend James Harris, 46 both of whom also reside at 118 E. McIver St. Officers said it appeared a radio was broken in the house and as a result Keith struck Holder in the back with his bare hand. After a brief altercation between Keith and Harris, Keith struck Harris in the back of the head with a fire extinguisher regarded as an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Harris was noted to have severe lacerations to the head after the assault.Keith was arrested on felony charges.
