KNIGHTDALE - Knightdale Town Council authorized the building of an entrance to Mingo Creek Park and plans to continue future improvements.
The park is located at the end of Parkside Drive.
Its undeveloped condition came to the attention of the council from resident Paula Gavasto of 418 Mingocrest Drive, who has lobbied for improvements.
The council approved a plan for the park presented by Parks and Recreation Director Tina Cheek.
She said an entrance with a sign, plantings with mulch beds and a split rail fence could be built by the Knightdale Public Works Department at little expense.
The plan also calls for playground equipment, improvements to the basketball court, and paving the mulch walking trail.
Cheek said she is applying for a grant for the playground equipment. She also is working with a purchasing agent on asphalt bids for the trail.
The Public Works Department will stripe the foul lines and three-point line and cover graffiti on the basketball court, Cheek said.
Cheek said the barbed wire on fencing around the park has been removed.
