An argument between brothers over beer left both facing criminal charges.
Police were called to 35 E. Maggie Court just before 7:30 last Tuesday where they found Martin David Maughan stabbed several times in the back.
According to police, Maughan, 34, and his brother, Gabriel Scott Maughan, 29, both of 35 E. Maggie Court, began arguing. Police reports indicate that Martin Maughan got angry with his brother because he was pouring beer out of cans that were in the refrigerator. The argument eventually moved outside, where Gabriel Maughan said his brother tried to run over him with a truck. Then Martin Maughan struck his brother in the back with a large stick. Gabriel Maughan then stabbed Martin Maughan several times in the back with a pair of scissors.
Sgt. Landon Hare and Off. Henry Gibbs responded to the call. They arrested Gabriel Maughan and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was released from the Wake County jail Wednesday under $30,000 bond. Martin Maughan was taken to WakeMed for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. On Wednesday, Martin Maughan was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He was placed in the Wake County jail under $10,000 bond.
