Clayton -- A Clayton couple returned home from the hospital on Monday with a new family member and an unusual story about her birth.

Dave Pond, of Hardaway Place in the Riverwood subdivision, said he and wife Heather were preparing to go to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh last weekend when Heather's water broke. Less than 30 minutes later, Heather gave birth to the couple's second daughter, Kiley Grace Pond, in their Honda Odyssey minivan. Kiley weighed in at seven pounds, four ounces and was 19 inches in length.

"It was definitely a very unusual experience," Dave Pond said Tuesday.

The case has drawn national attention because of the unusual circumstances of Kiley's birth. She was born close to the Eastern Wake Fire and Rescue Department near the intersection of U.S. 64/264 Bypass and Poole Road in Knightdale.
