ZEBULON — Town Hall will close the week of Jan. 19-23 as employees move from their longtime digs at the corner of Arendell Avenue and Vance Street to their new office in the former Wakelon School.

Employees will be off Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Day, but when they return to work they’ll face mountains of moving boxes.

The police department will be staffed only for walk-in needs. People with non-emergency business should call 829-1911 for assistance.

Staffers in the Planning Department will not meet with clients, issue permits or certificates of occupancy of accept plans for new development projects that week.

The Parks and Recreation Department will not accept registration forms that week.

Anyone needing to pay utility bills in person may deliver them to the Wendell Town Hall at 15 E. Fourth St. or at any other town hall that typically accepts Raleigh water payments.

The move has been a long time coming.

Voters approved a $5 million bond issue in 2007 to buy and renovate the two buildings on the campus. Town officials soon signed an agreement with GlaxoSmithKline to purchase the building.

Architects developed plans to turn the old school into office space and a police department.

Construction crews began their work in earnest earlier this year.

Town leaders hope to schedule an open house later this year to let the public get a first-hand look at their new home.
