Wendell — Filipino egg rolls. Italian pizza. American hamburgers. There was something to satisfy every palate at Saturday’s International Food Festival. The event has been hosted for the past six years by Saint Eugene Catholic Church. This year’s event was blessed with good weather, large crowds and a buzz of activity throughout the day. With entertainment from a host of performers including international gospel music recording artist Jaime Cortez, the stage at J. Ashley Wall Towne Square drew constant attention.Between acts, visitors could sample foods from faraway places such as Germany, Ireland, Honduras, Lebanon and Poland.Other food booths included food perhaps a little more familiar to American audiences, including one that served Texan food, another that served Cajun food and one that offered desserts.Tables set up throughout the area were filled much of the time and at lunchtime, many stood around makeshift tables set up throughout the festival grounds. If food and music weren’t at the top of your list, there was plenty of activity in the game area, where children bought tickets for a chance at hitting the target at the dunking booth, rolling marbles through in a tray or simply bouncing in an inflatable moonwalk.
