LIBRARY NEWS WENDELL PUBLIC LIBRARY The library will host computer classes Oct. 9 on e-mail and management. ZEBULON PUBLIC LIBRARY Toddler Time storytime for ages 18 months-3 years meets Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.; and Preschool Time for ages 3-5 years is Wednesdays at 10:30.

KNIGHTDALE RECREATION CENTER A holiday trip to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville is being planned for Nov. 18-19. Cost is $219 per person, double occupancy. Package includes one-night hotel accommodations and one deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel. Eat a holiday dinner at the Biltmore Estate; go on a self-guided “candlelight” tour of the Biltmore House; visit and wine tasting at the Biltmore Estate Winery; and holiday shop at the Historic Biltmore Village Shops. SUPPORT MEETINGS HELD On the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, support meetings are held at Knightdale Baptist Church on Main Street conducted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness. CANCER WALK PLANNED The sixth annual Gail Parkins Memorial Ovarian Awareness Walk is on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Sanderson High School in Raleigh. Registration is at 9 with an education forum at 9:15, presented by Dr. Andrew Berchuck, director of GYN oncology at Duke University Medical Center. The two-mile memorial walk begins at 10:30. A $25 advance registration per person includes continental breakfast, lunch and event T-shirt. Registration is $30 on the day of the walk. GRANT APPLICANTS SOUGHT The Franklin County Arts Council will award grants up to $1,000 for local arts organizations to finance arts projects within Franklin County. Projects may include the performance arts, fine arts or literary arts. Examples of the project or program must be furnished with the application, which is due at the Arts Council no later than Saturday, Sept. 30. Programs or projects must be open to the public and must serve multi-ethnic groups. Organizations must operate on a nonprofit basis and must have been in existence not less than one year. CALL FOR ARISTS The Wendell Chamber of Commerce and the Wendell Woman’s Club announce the first Wendell art exhibit titled the “Charms of Wendell.” Exhibit will showcase original fine art pieces that depict our people, landscapes, town views, unique buildings and the many interesting things in Wendell. It is open to N.C. artists over age 18. Work must be original, completed within the last two years, and focus on the theme “Charms of Wendell.” No photography, prints, crafts, 3D sculptures or pottery will be accepted. All work must be available for purchase, framed, ready for hanging and may not exceed 32 inches by 40 inches. Exhibit dates are Jan. 23-25, 2009. BAND TO PLAY “The Craig Woolard Show” will be Thursday, Oct. 2, in the Wendell Community Center from 7-10 p.m. Tickets are $10. Those who are playing in the Doug Proctor Golf Tournament on Friday, Oct. 3, at Wendell Country Club will be admitted free. WENDELL FESTIVAL The Harvest Festival will be Oct. 3-4. It will take place from noon-10 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday. It will feature live radio, The River & The Rooster on stage Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., plus vendors, kids rides, food, health fair and the Band of Oz from 7-10 p.m.
