MEMORIAL BRICKS
The Hoe ’n Hope Garden Club is selling memorial bricks as part of its effort to improve the J. Ashley Wall Towne Square in Wendell. The bricks can be purchased in memory or in honor of people the buyer wishes to recognize. ZEBULON PARKS AND RECREATION
The department is offering an early morning boot camp class. Boot camp is an exercise class that has a challenge for all fitness levels. Individuals can work at their own pace. It includes fat-blasting cardio and muscle toning exercises, along with a stretch at the end of class. Classes are held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 6-6:45 at the Zebulon Community Park and the Zebulon Armory. Cost is $25 for residents and $30 for nonresidents, and covers both Tuesday and Wednesday classes.

Monday night boot camp is a class comprised of aerobic exercise, muscle conditioning, and exercises for the upper and lower body. Each individual can work at their own level. Classes are at the Zebulon Armory from 6-7. Participants who are unsure about joining the class may sit in on the first class for free. Cost is $22.50 resident/$27.50 nonresident for seven classes.

30/30 shape up class consists of 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of Pilates. The cardio portion gives an overall aerobic workout while the Pilates works the core abdominal muscles, and is good for overall strengthening and lengthening exercises. Classes are held on Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. at the Armory. Cost is $22.50 resident/$27.50 nonresident for seven classes.

Karate classes are offered from 7-8 p.m. beginner and 8-9 p.m. intermediate at the Armory. Registration is ongoing. The cost is $35 a month and the instructor is Charles Mann. The department also offers a free walking group from 10-11 a.m. Wednesdays at the Armory. A free preschool play along is offered Mondays from 10:30-11:15 a.m. for ages 3-4 at the Armory. 

LITERACY COUNCIL SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
The Literacy Council of Wake County’s family literacy program is recruiting volunteers from the community. The family reading workshops are Mondays from 10 a.m.-noon at the East Wake Education Foundation in Wendell. For more information or to volunteer, call Laurin Ariail at 787-5559.

LIBRARY NEWS
All libraries will have “Stamp On It!” June 18 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Bring a clean, light-colored T-shirt to make “buggy” for “Catch the Reading Bug!” summer programs. The libraries will also offer activities for kids Wednesdays at 4:30. 

EAST REGIONAL LIBRARY

SOCCER PLAYERS SOUGHT
The Johnston County Soccer Association will hold tryouts for Challenge and Classic youth soccer teams for the upcoming fall 2008 and spring 2009 seasons. Challenge and Classic teams focus on player development beyond the recreational level with an emphasis on improving player performance and teaching the tactical side of the game. FLAG DAY SERVICE PLANNED
A Flag Day service will be held June 14 at 9 p.m. at American Legion Post No. 148 at 5100 Wendell Blvd. This is a special event that allows us to honorably retire flags that have become worn and tattered.
