Zebulon — Area residents are encouraged to take part in a workshop Friday afternoon.

Hanging in the balance could be the future of Wake County’s public transportation system in eastern Wake County.

Organizers of the event, including the Eastern Regional Center, the City of Raleigh and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, are looking for input from residents about the need for public transportation in the area.

Advice from residents will be used to create recommendations from those organizations to federal officials who will decide how public transportation money is spent.

Officials say they would like to provide transportation to low-income residents and older adults who need access to transportation for a wide range of needs from doctor visits to job access.

Friday’s meeting will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Eastern Regional Center, 1002 Dogwood Drive, Zebulon. Residents from Wendell, Knightdale and Zebulon are encouraged to attend.
