Military veterans of any era and men and women currently serving with Wendell-area connections will be honored during the annual July 4 celebration at the J. Ashley Wall Towne Square.
Part of the celebration will be a display featuring photos of men and women in uniform.
The American Legion and several area churches are assisting in collecting the photos. Allison Rice at the Wendell Planning Department at the town office, 15 E. 4th Street is also collecting the photographs.
Photos may be picked up at the same point they are dropped off after they are scanned for the display. The following information is requested: name of veteran, branch of military service and years or era in service (for example, 1959-1961, Korean War, Vietnam). If a photo in uniform is not available, submit name, dates of service and service branch, and that information will be included in the display.
Photos are requested by Monday, June 16.
This year, veterans are being invited to join in the traditional July 4th children’s parade featuring decorated wagons, bicycles and pets beginning at 11:30 a.m. Veterans are invited to ride in the parade and to sit as a group during the short program at the J. Ashley Wall Towne Square following the parade.
Parade line-up is at 11:15 a.m. in front of Mortex.
