— Knightdale has released the first group of vendors and entertainment for the 2014 Farmer’s Market scheduled to begin May 17 at the new Knightdale Station Park.

The group of 10 vendors and seven entertainment groups may change but currently includes traditional artisan and crafts as well as baked goods.

This year, the town has also added the Community Tent feature, which will provide a variety of resources to residents, like health screenings and giveaways.

“We just wanted to try something different,” said the market’s organizer, Chris Roland. “We’re just trying to appeal to more groups of people and get this a more family-oriented farmer’s market.”

Roland said the Community Tent’s activities are meant to coincide with that particular week’s entertainment which includes a food truck rodeo, a rabies and microchip clinic and local schools’ music classes.

The town’s food truck rodeo will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. on May 17.

And even though the market is relocating from Harper Park, Roland said they have about the right number of vendors, although he is looking for another produce vendor to keep the focus on edible goods, not crafts.

“I don’t want this to become a flea market,” he said.

Currently, the market has two vendors dedicated to crafts and two other vendors that specialize in food goods as well as crafts.

The other four vendors will offer food including watermelon, strawberries, cucumbers, beef, lamb and pork.

The market will run every Saturday from May 17 to Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Knightdale Station Park.
