KNIGHTDALE — A missing teenager returned home last Saturday night after some help from classmates and peers on social media.
Eryn Geus, 16, never showed up to school at East Wake High on Friday, a flyer circulated on social media said Saturday. Classmates and peers began using the hashtag “HelpFindEryn” in Twitter and Instagram to locate Geus.
According to tweets, by about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Geus was safely at home.
“I can tell you the word spread faster than I ever thought,” Geus’s mother, Jennifer Hickman said. “There’s only so much police can do on their own without having other people keep an eye out.”
Mid-day Saturday, Knightdale police were following a lead about locating a boyfriend, but there weren’t many other details available.
Fellow students posted pictures and information about Geus, including information about who she might be with.
Caitlin Magaha, a student at Wake Forest High School and one of Geus’s rec soccer league teammates, was one peer who started sending out information about Geus around 11 a.m. on Saturday.
“I wanted to find her,” Magaha said. “A lot of people go on Twitter, they can retweet it so people that I don’t really know can see it.”
