Local teacher wins award

December 11, 2013

Wakelon Elementary teacher Marta Whitehouse has received the 2013 A.J. Fletcher Award from N.C. Beautiful for her 2010 Azalea Celebration project at her school.

Whitehouse received $250 and 50 azaleas for her third consecutive win. Whitehouse said she plans to use them to continue to beautify Wakelon Elementary, and she hopes to eventually have an arrangement comparable to the azalea garden at WRAL in Raleigh.

N.C. Beautiful focuses on protecting natural resources and promoting constructive action toward environmental stewardship.
