East Wake’s Tanner signs with Norfolk State University basketball

Why Norfolk State? Shayla said, “Norfolk State University had a family feel to it. And I liked how their players bonded on and off the court.”

Most memorable time at East Wake: “The excitement of making the varsity team as a freshman.”

Notable: Shayla has been recognized as All-Greater Neuse River 4A Conference and named to the league’s All-Academic team three straight years.

She also earned area Player of the Week honors in the 2012-13 season. She recorded her first double-double against Wilson Hunt in the 2011-12 season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

East Wake coach Toni Vick: “Shayla has worked very hard during her high school career. I am very proud of her and hope to see her achieve more in the future.”
