Eastern Wake veterans bask in the spotlight

jwhitfield@newsobserver.comNovember 15, 2013

— Monday’s Veterans Day celebration here wrapped up a series of observances in all three eastern Wake County towns over the long holiday weekend.

Members of Cedric Harris American Legion Post 148 capped off the events with a nighttime celebration at J. Ashley Wall Towne Square. Post members read poems and tributes to soldiers from the stage at the town square, which was a change of venue for the organization which has, in years past, held Sunday afternoon events at the Post home.

Monday night’s celebration drew about 50 people, including other veterans, family members, friends and local officials.

The Wendell observance followed a luncheon held Monday at Zebulon Baptist Church. On Sunday, members of the Two Green Thumbs Garden Club in Knightdale hosted a Veterans Day celebration at the Blue Star Memorial in the Old Town section of town, that included a wreath-laying ceremony.
