NC Big Sweep recruiting volunteers

September 23, 2013

The NC Big Sweep is recruiting volunteers for its litter clean-up from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 5. The 2013 theme, ‘Be Amazing’, was created by Corinth Holders High student Brenna Ziermann, Big Sweep’s Artist of the Year who won the statewide poster design contest last year.

To participate, volunteers select a clean-up site in or near their community. Trash bags, data cards and other supplies will be provided. Clean-up dates are flexible for volunteers.

NC Big Sweep is part of an international waterway clean-up in which volunteers tally the litter that is picked up. This information is entered into an international database to determine the most prevalent types of litter and how it can be prevented.

Big Sweep is an ideal opportunity for acquiring community service hours for school groups, civic organizations, Scouts and individuals. Many Johnston County schools have used Big Sweep to clean up their campuses and provide students’ service to the community.

Other dates before the event are available for interested parties. To schedule an alternative date, or for more information, contact Susan Woodard at 919-934-7156 ext. 3 or
