ZEBULON — Police believe a man caught on camera while robbing a Raleigh gaming store at gunpoint on Monday is the same man who robbed a beauty store in Zebulon on Sept. 5.
The suspect in both cases is said to be a heavyset black man at least 6 feet tall with shoulder-length dreadlocks and a tattoo on his left arm.
Surveillance footage obtained from the Gamestop store at 5620 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, shows the suspect wearing a gray T-shirt with writing along the front collar and a design of a cross on the back. He was also wearing a dark ball cap and dark shorts.
A press release issued by Raleigh Police spokesman Jim Sughrue indicated the man produced a handgun at a register and demanded money from a clerk at the gaming store around noon. The clerk complied and the suspect left on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
A similar armed robbery took place at Sally Beauty Supply on East Gannon Avenue in Zebulon four days earlier.
Zebulon police responded to the call about 7:30 p.m. and were advised by store employees that a man entered the store and posed as a shopper before producing a small, black handgun and demanding money from a clerk.
No shots were fired and no one was injured in the incident. The suspect got less than $500 and exited through the front door, according to police Chief Tim Hayworth.
The Zebulon suspect was wearing khaki shorts, a black shirt, a dark baseball cap and sunglasses.
Raleigh and Zebulon police are seeking the public’s help in their investigations of the armed robberies.
