NASHVILLE — Bradford Creek’s boys and Willow Springs’ girls won the team titles at the Eastern N.C. Junior Golf League finals, held Aug. 5 at Birchwood Country Club.
But a local individual – Zebulon 10-11 boys golfer Robert Henderson – made his presence known to the field with a one-under-par 35 to claim first place and the league title for his age division.
Henderson was one of 13 eastern Wake golfers who either earned a spot in the championship round through their performance in the regular season or were invited to compete.
Other notable finals rounds came from Wendell’s Reed Miller and Zebulon’s Peyton Windley. They each shot 43 to tie for third place in the 12-13 boys division, while Wendell golfer Kirby Yeargin shot 45 to take fourth. Zebulon’s Blake McShea shot 45 to tie for fourth in the 14-15 boys field.
The Zebulon Country Club team produced the rest of the locals who competed in the match.
They were 10-11 boys Daniel Carter (50) and Chance Puckett (57); 12-13 golfer Mason Horton (62); 14-15 boys Troy Bennett (46), Brian Bowden (48) and Robert Driver (51); and 16-18 golfer William Lewis (45).
Neville Burton, also a 16-18 age division golfer, withdrew from the round.
