KNIGHTDALE — While attending an Offense-Defense football camp this summer at N.C. State, a trio of local youth players were named All-Americans and invited to participate in the eighth-annual Offense-Defense Bowl Week festivities.
The bowl week is slated for Dec. 30-Jan. 5 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
The young players are Caleb Melton, 8, of Clayton; Cory Russ, 8, of Knightdale; and Joel Yulfo, 9, of Knightdale. Melton is a defensive tackle, Russ a defensive end, and Yulfo a linebacker for the Knightdale Knights of the East Wake Football League.
The three players had quality outings at the camp to validate the Bowl Selection Committee’s choice in tabbing them for the All-Star tilt. They were selected for the honor from a group of athletes from across the country numbering in the thousands.
The Offense-Defense Youth All-American Bowl is part of a week-long series of events including an All-Star football game showcasing 88 of the top high school seniors in the country.
