WENDELL — James Lee didn’t set out to be anyone’s pastor of the month. But it’s a title he can wear proudly for the next 30 days.
The pastor of First Baptist Church in Wendell, Lee was recognized during last Sunday’s morning worship services as Pastor of the Month by WNNL, a gospel radio station in Raleigh most people know simply as The Light.
Jerry Smith presented the award on behalf of the radio station. He said Lee personified the church’s motto, which is emblazoned on a marker in the front of the church: Loving, Caring, Sharing.
Lee said church members, family and friends of Lee were especially vocal in their support of his nomination for the award.
First Baptist Church associate pastor William Patray nominated Lee for the honor, which is voted on by listeners of the radio station.
In his nomination letter, he said Lee’s impact is felt not only throughout the church, but in the wider community as well.
“Rev. Lee is a God-fearing man, and if he can not help you he will not put stumbling blocks in your way,” Patray wrote in his nomination letter. “He allows the Lord to use him to let his little light shine as God is glorified in the process.”
Lee was all smiles as he was presented the award Sunday, but he was grateful, too.
“I am filled with gratitude at the love you have poured out today,” Lee told his congregation.
