— A local man faces charges of attempted murder and assault after a July 4 dispute in which a woman was shot by a shotgun just north of Zebulon.

Wake County sheriff’s deputies arrested Jerry Thomas Glenn, 62, on the afternoon of July 5 on Parks Avenue. They claimed Glenn, of 685 Williams White Road in Zebulon, was responsible for hitting Stacey Lynn Tillman, also of Zebulon, in the head with birdshot from a .410-gauge shotgun the day before.

The incident took place at 2026 Rosinburg Road about 9:45 p.m. on July 4, according to law officials.

“It occurred as a result of an altercation and the injuries (to Tillman) were minor,” said Capt. Jimmy Stevens, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Stevens indicated Tillman was not the intended target. He declined to provide specific details of the incident – like how far away Tillman was when the gun was fired, if alcohol was at play, if pellets hit other areas on Tillman’s body, or more on the nature of her injuries.

Tillman was transported to WakeMed, where she was no longer listed as a patient as of Monday.

Arrest warrants charged Glenn with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He remained in jail on $1 million bail as of Wednesday.
