Teachers win grants

Teachers from Hodge Road Elementary in Knightdale and Lake Myra Elementary in Wendell are two of the Wake County teachers awarded classroom grants from the Wake Education Partnership.

More than $70,000 in classroom grants went to 34 Wake County public school teachers, including Jane Ferguson from Lake Myra Elementary School and Angel Reavis from Hodge Road Elementary School. Reavis will receive a dental health grant and Ferguson will receive the Dr. Sherri Merritt Literacy Scholarship.

The grants are focused on the arts, dental health, early childhood literacy, math, life science, health and nutrition, and autism education

A committee of Wake County’s business leaders and educators reviewed the grant applications. Selection criteria included the sustainability of a program, contributions to professional development and potential for improved student achievement.
