Recruit completes boot camp

Army National Guard Pvt. Dezmond D. Hopkins recently completed basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During his nine weeks of training, Hopkins studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness. He also received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid and foot marches.

Hopkins, a 2011 graduate of Bunn High School, is the son of Myron and Deirdre Hopkins and grandson of Ruth Hopkins, all of Zebulon.
