Piedmont College (Demorest, Ga.) Basketball

High School: Knightdale

Parents: Montez Sr. and Shenita Wilson

Position: Shooting guard

Also considered: Elizabeth City State, Penn State Altoona, Spring Hill (Ala.), Faulkner (Ala.), Hartwick (New York)

Why Piedmont? “The coach has been recruiting me since the beginning of this year. He’s really the only coach that really called me. He’s going to push me. I’m looking forward to it, and to getting better.”

Most memorable: “My teammates had my back since I’ve been (at Knightdale), and my coach, especially, helped a lot on and off the court. That was a good thing.”

Notable: Wilson played four years of basketball at Knightdale High School, on the varsity team his junior and senior seasons. He was a captain for his senior season, when he was academic All Conference and had the highest GPA of the players on the team (3.5). Wilson also won the Greater Neuse River Conference Sportsmanship Award his senior season.

Knightdale coach Battle Watkins: “He is a solid individual, and as a captain he’s the kind of person you want that will settle people down. He never misses a practice – always stays late, gets there on time. He always did his homework in study hall, I never had to challenge him. On the little things that coaches ask, Montez is the type of kid that did that. He hit a lot of 3s for us. I think he had about 45 3-pointers this year, and they were clutch 3s. He was one of our better free throw shooters. He’s a solid individual, the kind you wish you had more of on every team.”
