WENDELL — Police arrested a Wendell man on Wednesday for allegedly raping a child and committing multiple child sex offenses in what police call a parental role.
Edgar Cardona Gonzalez, 26, of Holly Pointe Drive, faces one count of first-degree child rape, three counts of first degree sex offense on a child, and four counts of a sexual offense on a child in a parental role.
Wendell police Chief Bill Carter declined to provide details of the allegations against Gonzalez, but said officers acted quickly when they received a report late Tuesday night.
“We got a call around 10 o’clock that night,” said Carter, who declined to identify the caller.
Police obtained a warrant and arrested Gonzalez at the Wendell police station less than five hours later.
The investigation remains ongoing, Carter said, but Wendell police believe the offenses are isolated.
“At this point, I haven’t heard anything to suggest it involved more than one victim,” Carter said.
Carter declined to disclose the relationship between Gonzalez and the victim, saying only that the victim is a female younger than 13-years-old.
Gonzalez remains in the Wake County jail on $1 million bond.
