— A local man was arrested Saturday, April 20 on charges he raped a 26-year-old Wendell woman at his home.

Police say they received a report of the incident around 5:45 a.m. that morning and later asked the suspect, Darren Morren Lee, 23, of 500 E. North St., Zebulon, to come to the Zebulon Police Department.

“He consensually came up here,” Zebulon Lt. Scott Finch said. “Based on the information obtained in the investigation, that’s how we came up with the probable cause to make the arrest.”

Finch said detectives interviewed Lee, the victim and two other witnesses, who were all acquaintances, before Lee was arrested just after 3 p.m. the same day.

Lee was charged with one count of second degree rape – defined as forcing oneself on another person against their will, or on a person who is mentally or physically disabled.

Lee is scheduled to appear in court May 13. He remained in the Wake County Jail on secure bond of $200,000 as of Wednesday.
