The Fowler Road Bridge over Moccasin Creek north of Zebulon is closed for repairs until late April, according to state Department of Transportation officials.
The NCDOT is temporarily closing the 56-year-old bridge so workers can replace older timbers. Officials said the bridge is structurally deficient, which means it is safe but needs more extensive maintenance. The bridge is scheduled to be replaced in a few years.
For now, drivers on Fowler Road are being directed to use Dukes Lake Lane, Country Club Road, Furney Pearce Road and Henry Baker Road to get around the closure.
