Proms are expensive, especially the gowns. But there is help. A local charity is collecting gowns for girls who can’t afford to buy prom gowns. The group plans to give the gowns away when they set up shop at a “Super One-Day Prom Dress Give-A-Way.” This shop is open from 3-8:30 p.m. March 15 at 1200 N. Salem St., Apex.
In addition to the free prom dresses, teens can find shoes, jewelry, make-up and other accessories. The event founder, Sidney Froom, said the event is for teens all across central North Carolina. For details call 919-267-5065.
The Prom Shoppe is part of an outreach ministry at Apex United Methodist Church. Froom said her church-based organization reaches out to high school girls in central North Carolina. They have been collecting formal dresses all year long and have almost 1,000 dresses to give away.
