K’dale student earns honors
In 2010 Andrew Ryan Izzo, a freshman at Appalachian State University, seemed to have it made then tragedy struck. Izzo, a 2010 Knightdale High School graduate, was pulling out of a Wendy’s Restaurant parking lot on his motorcycle when someone crashed into his vehicle.
The former high school soccer goalie suffered a severe concussion, two broken vertebrae in his neck and a broken hand, according to his mother, Dawn Izzo. He had to drop out of college and during the next few months Izzo, who worked to recover from his injuries. He had to have surgery on his hand. Still his mother says he “is a great kid as well as a great person. He is very driven and hardworking.”
By the spring of 2011 Izzo was as a college freshman again. He made the dean’s list at Appalachian State in his freshman year. Izzo earned a spot on the Chancellor’s list for the fall semester of 2012, which requires full-time students to earn a GPA of at least 3.85 out of a possible 4.0.
Zebulon resident makes dean’s list
Victoria Ellis of Zebulon was named to the Chowan University dean’s list for the fall semester. Students must complete their semester’s course work with a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.79 to qualify for the honor. Ellis is a sophomore majoring in elementary education.
