A Zebulon area advertising agency has won national recognition for graphic design.
R F Timberlake & Company, Inc. was recently named a National Graphic Design Award winner for a newspaper/internet ad campaign entitled “Taxes Make You Run Home to Mommy – Abacus/Kid”. The ad was for Les Merritt CPA, an accounting firm based in Zebulon. A veteran accountant with several local and regional firms, Merritt is a former State Auditor and Council of State member.
The president of R F Timberlake & Company, Frank Timberlake, said winning the award for a campaign with local ties was especially pleasing.
“Having done ad work for Les Merritt in his various accounting firms for over 20 years, I was very pleased for our team to be able to rise to meet his advertising needs and to win a prestigious award such as the AGD. That’s your peers and peer leaders saying that your ad is not good but exceptional.”
The leader of the project’s creative team at RFTCO is Erik Macenas.
“Having put together the corporate identity package just prior to the ad development, we were looking to tie the new logo and slogan to the more urgent sales message. We put the kid with the Abacus into the ad with the logo overlay and away it went,” Macenas said.
For nearly five decades, Graphic Design USA has sponsored national design competitions that spotlight areas of excellence and opportunity for creative professionals.
The American Graphic Design Awards is the biggest and broadest of these open to everyone in the community: advertising agencies, graphic design firms, corporations, institutions, publishers and more. It honors outstanding work of all kinds and across all media: print and collateral, advertising and sales promotion, corporate identity and logos, Internet and interactive design, broadcast and motion graphics.
R F Timberlake & Company’s entry is part of a small percentage of more than 8,500 ads submitted from all over the country to win this award. Timberlake’s company provides consumer and business-to-business marketing communications services to clients from Washington to Tampa.
