Local professor discusses Civil War
Knightdale resident and Nash Community College humanities professor, Dr. Mary Wayne Watson recently presented her talk; “Women’s Attitudes towards Secession and the Civil War,” at the regional conference of the Community College Humanities Association in Louisville, Ky. Watson’s proposal was selected from competitive entries from throughout the Southeast for the conference.
She also gave the full presentation in November at Nash Community College. Watson plans to give the presentation throughout the state under the auspices of the N.C. Humanities Council and Nash Community College.
Watson based her presentation on a series of “eloquent, moving letters” written by her great-grandmother and her great-grandmother sisters in what is now Scotland County to a family in Moore County, during the Civil War. She offers a unique perspective on the Civil War from her ancestors’ perspective.
